Hi there! Summer is still here in Israel, so it got me thinking about the beach… In this post, I’ll be showing two cards with images from the Ocean Minded stamp set by Gina K. Designs! This stamp set is so unique, and has many sea-side themed images, like waves and footprints. It really makes you feel like you’re on the beach tanning and relaxing – which is something all of us desperately need right now 🙂 First Take on the Ocean Minded Stamp Set For my first card, I used a piece of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock. It has a light kraft color, and I felt it would match the sandy beach scene perfectly. I also blended Broken China distress oxide ink for the sea waters. Finally, I used fine white embossing powder for the foam, and added the heart and the sentiment: The foam looks so realistic, don’t you think?? 🤩 I decided immediately that I want to make another ocean minded card, so… Second Take on the Stamp Set! This time, instead of white embossing powder, I used Speckled Egg distress embossing glaze. I also decided to do ink blending for the sand, instead of using kraft paper. Here is the card: The footprints were also heat embossed with Speckled Egg. I really like how it looks grey-ish instead of bright white. Gives me a more realistic feeling when I look at it: I’m certainly not done with this stamp set yet, but that’s all for today 🙂 I’m very happy with my ocean minded cards, and I hope you liked them too!

Hello! Today I’m sharing another floral card with Distress Embossing Glaze. This time, it’s full of beautiful poppies! 😍 Like everyone else who has them, I’m having so much fun with my glazes, that every once in a (short) while I have to use them again… So last night, I made this card, with “embossing glaze poppies”: For the background, I used “Small Talk” stickers from idea-ology. I love the messages on these stickers! So encouraging and positive. After adding them to the background, I added Old Paper distress ink on top. (by the way, I’m pretty sure the inspiration for this background came from the Tim Holtz Addicts Facebook group. That group is just amazing!) I stamped the “beautiful” sentiment first, using Tim Holtz Mini Worn Text stamp set. I think this set it discontinued, but Stampers Anonymous have a larger set called Worn Text. Love the look of these letters over the stickers. I didn’t leave the “background text” visible on purpose, but I really like the way it turned out: The black “you are” stickers are from “Chit Chat” stickers pad from idea-ology. Because they’re black, they stand out nicely on the background. And because I put them on top of the white stickers, they stand out even more 🙂 Once I had my background and sentiment ready, I stamped the large gorgeous poppy from Tim Holtz Flower Garden stamp set. I did it a couple of times, to cover the backgrounds nicely. Because I wanted to do some coloring, I used Jet Black Archival Ink. I colored the center and stamens of each poppy with a black marker. Once it was dry, I colored each flower with my Versamarker pen and then heat embossed it with Fired Brick Distress Embossing Glaze. I left some areas “uncolored”. I think it creates a nice “artsy” look 😍 Here’s a photo of another one: I just LOVE how the glazed poppies look on this card. As you may already know, I suck at coloring, but with the distress embossing glazes I can “color” pretty well! It really is a great product ❤️ Two Useful Tips about Embossing/Glazing 1 – Use an anti-static powder before coloring with your Versamarker pen, especially when your background has texture. On my background, the stickers have many “crannies” between them, and the powder helped preventing the embossing powder from piling up there. 2 – […]

1 – Use an anti-static powder before coloring with your Versamarker pen, especially when your background has texture. On my background, the stickers have many “crannies” between them, and the powder helped preventing the embossing powder from piling up there.

2 – When glazing multiple large images, work on one image at a time. This way, you won’t have to worry about your Versamark ink getting dry.

Card Challenges

I’m submitting my embossing glaze poppies card to these challenges:

Simonsaysstamp Wednesday Challenge – Anything Goes.
A Vintage Journey – Beautiful Blooms.

Hi there! Sharing today a shiny sunflowers card that I made by accident! There I was, crafting in the middle of the night again, planning to use my new Distress Embossing Glazes. But alas, my Versamark pen was nowhere to be found! 😱 (don’t worry though, I found it later and used it for this card…) I was not going to give up on playing with the glazes, so I decided to try my Wink of Stella shimmer pen instead. And, surprisingly enough, it worked! And the shimmer is peeking through the glaze from behind, which creates a really cool look. Here is my card. I stamped the sunflower from Tim Holtz’s Flower Garden stamp set, colored them with Distress Markers and then added the shimmer+glaze to the petals and stamens: I spritzed some Black Soot with the distress marker spritzer, and added a nice sentiment from Tim Holtz idea-ology at the bottom. Here are some close-ups of the “highlights” of this card. You can really see the shimmer here! 🤩🤩 And here you can see the shine of the glaze 😍 So cool! I really like the sentiment here – “you can never have too much happy”. So true! I’m submitting my shiny sunflowers card to the following challenges: 1. Dragonfly Dreams Challenge – Add a Flower/Flowers 2. Sweet Stamping Challenge – Distressed 3. Simonsaysstamp Wednesday Challenge – Flower Power I hope you liked my card!

🎩 🎩 🎩 “Take off your hat,” the King said to the Hatter. “It isn’t mine,” said the Hatter. “Stolen!” the King exclaimed, turning to the jury, who instantly made a memorandum of the fact. “I keep them to sell,” the Hatter added as an explanation; “I’ve none of my own. I’m a hatter.” Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass 🎩 🎩 🎩 I love hats. I have a huge collection of hats in my closet. Each time I go on a trip abroad, I come back with a hat. My mom always says that I have “a head for hats” and should always wear a hat. My husband just laughs at me every time I buy a new one 🙂 So, how is it possible that I’ve had Tim Holtz’s “Ladies & Gentlemen” stamp set forever, and haven’t used it yet?? No explanations here, but I have finally used it last night, and created this card for my craft room, with a fun mood color hat spinner: You can actually spin the cog with your finger, and choose which hat the pretty lady should wear today! And boy, she could wear hats! 😍 Check out her different styles: A Bit About the Making of this Card It was real fun making it, so I wanted to share some info about the process as well. I used LOTS of Distress Embossing Glaze on this card. On the background, I sprayed Distress Resist Spray through a stencil (just like I did in this post), and then quickly applied different glazes on the pattern. You have to work fast, or the spray will dry out! I love the texture from the resist and the glazes combined. Very cool 😎 After the embossing, I sprayed the background with Distress Oxide Sprays (mostly brown colors). The hats were also embossed with the glazes, and after they cooled I added some Antique Linen Distress Ink on the white areas. The lady was actually COLORED with the glazes! I used my Versamark pen, coloring different areas each time, and then embossing it. I really suck at coloring, so this technique worked great for me! The Spinner Mechanism For the spinner, I stamped the cog twice (because there’s only a “half” in the set) on a piece of acetate. I used Jet Black Archival Ink for stamping, and then dried it with my heat tool. Surprisingly, […]

I love the texture from the resist and the glazes combined. Very cool

After the embossing, I sprayed the background with Distress Oxide Sprays (mostly brown colors).

The Spinner Mechanism

For the spinner, I stamped the cog twice (because there’s only a “half” in the set) on a piece of acetate. I used Jet Black Archival Ink for stamping, and then dried it with my heat tool. Surprisingly, it worked!

The pieces are held together mostly in the center. I added a small circle in the center with some glue, and covered it with a small circle label. Then, I added the hats, and because the blue one is covering the border between the parts, it’s helping to hold them together as well

To make the spinner spin, I used a sharp punching tool to punch a hole in the center, and added a large brass brad.

Because the cog is transparent, the pattern of the background is still visible:

To finish my card, I stamped randomly some other stamps from the set, and added a front panel with the banner of the merchant tailor (the hatter!!).

Here’s again the complete card:
