Hi! Today I’m sharing a colorful rainbow card that features the Happy Balloons stamp set by Concord & 9th. While creating this card, I was inspired by two great challenges that are going on now – CAS(E) This Sketch #276 and June Play at Art Playground. I encourage you to visit the challenge blogs and join the fun!
Here is my card:
Details & Inspiration
As I’ve mentioned above, I was inspired by two card challenges blogs – CAS(E) This Sketch and Art Playground.
This is the current sketch at CAS(E) This Sketch:
Instead of stars, I decided to use balloons to make a birthday card.
The June Play features the motive of flow and movement as the main subject (great tips there too!), and also has a color scheme for inspiration:
For my take on the challenge, I decided to use all the colors in the scheme, and make a rainbow effect with the balloons. I used Gina K. Designs dye ink cube for the balloons – they are by far my favorite dye inks at the moment.
To make an effect of movement, I stamped the balloons horizontally along the entire card length, and also changed the position of the stamped images – that “forces” the viewer to go over all of the balloons before “arriving” to the sentiment. I thought about this while reading tip #3 about movement at the Art Playground blog – thanks Sharon for sharing!
By the way, I did not use the thread stamp from the set, but simply drew lines using a fine tip pen and a ruler. I find this much easier and quicker than positioning and stamping multiple times.
The sentiment is from the Birthday Bits stamp set by SimonSaysStamp. I stamped it using Jet Black Archival Ink:
For the final touch, I trimmed the front panel (at about 1/4 “), adhered it to a craft foam for some dimension, and then attached the finished piece to the front of my card base.
I really like the finished card, it was fun making it (AND pretty quick with my stamping tool). Hope you’ll like it too! Let me know what you think – I’d love to read your comments.

I love this! Fabulous take on the sketch!
