Hello and happy new Jewish year! I’m back today with a quick tutorial for a front pocket card. As its name suggests, this card has a front pocket, that fits perfectly for a small tag. This is a nice, eye-catching fun-fold technique, so I hope you will try to make one, too!

The inspiration for this post came from this card by Ruth Hamilton. Be sure to visit her blog, it’s full of beautiful cards and inspiration!

Here is a photo of my first card:

You’ll need:

Basic cardstock for the card base, of size 8.5 x 5.5 ”
White cardstock for the inside of the card, of size 5.25 x 4 ”
2 pieces of DSP, each of size 2.5 x 4 ”
Optional – DSP of size 5.25 x 4 ”

Also, I highly recommend using a scoring board and bone folder.

So let’s get to it!

Start by scoring the base at 4.25 ” on the long edge:

Flip the paper to the short edge, and make a tiny mark at 2.75 ” :

Next, score diagonally from the mark to the corner of our fold. Tip: use a long ruler to make sure the two spots are aligned! 🙂
Below is the first score line:

And here is the second score line:

After this point, our card base should look like this:

Next, fold the center score line over the un-scored side, and then fold the diagonal fold lines to the opposite direction. You should end up with this:

Make sure to enforce the folds using a bone folder.

Now, it is time to make our patterned paper pieces. Cut each of the smaller pieces diagonally, each one on a different diagonal:

Optional: if you want to add a patterned paper piece to the back of our front pocket, take the larger DSP piece. Mark the center of the long edge at 2.625 (that’s 2 and 5 eights), and cut diagonally from the opposite corners to that mark. You will then have a large triangle, that fits perfectly to the back of the pocket:

Now, adhere the triangles to their right positions. Then, adhere the front triangles to each other in the intersection:

We’re almost done! Adhere the white paper to the inside of the card:

And finally, insert a matching tag to the pocket:

That’s it! and now… it’s

Close-ups Time!

Because I was pleased with the end result, I made some more of them. Here they are:
