Hello! Happy Wednesday! I’m back today with my experiments and insights on Yana Smakula’s Color with Paper Stamping technique!

I saw Yana’s post on SimonSaysStamp blog a while ago, where she shared a technique called “Color with Paper Stamping”. I knew immediately that I wanted to try it too, but only tried this technique a couple of days ago.
After playing with it for a while, I have to admit – this technique is awesome! So many possibilities! AND, you can use your scraps with it too! I always love new ideas how to use paper scraps 😍
Creating Landscapes Using Color with Paper Stamping
When I first tried the technique, I followed Yana’s tutorial to the letter 🙂
I, too, used Simon Says Waves stamp, and stamped it over 9 pieces of cardstock (most of them by Gina K. Designs), in various colors, to create beautiful landscapes on my cards:
The backgrounds have a beautiful artsy look to them.
You can really make your own little pieces of art with this technique. In fact, I’m going to make another one that is not a card, and frame it like a picture!
Here are some “individual” photos of each card:
The sentiment says “Happy Birthday” in Hebrew. I used a stamp by Netanella – Huge Stamp Set No. 2.
I also added some birds with a black pen.
Check out the cool textures of the papers! Love it 😍😍
Next, I thought it would be nice to add some houses and trees to the scene.
I used cute little houses and trees from an old stamp set by “Yaeli’s Home”, and colored them with Distress Markers.
I definitely need to practice more on my coloring… but the result is still very cute. Here is the first one:
And here is the second one:
Gotta love these houses!
After using up almost all of the “land” pieces, there were many blue and teal scraps left.
So, I made a scene with almost only skies, and some adorable balloons from Little Things stamp set by Tim Holtz:
The sentiment is from Netanella’s stamp set Reach for the Sky. It means “the sky is the limit” in Hebrew. Indeed, the sky is the limit with this technique! 🤗
For a little dimension, I used double-sided foam squares on some of the balloons:
Personally, I’m in love with all of these cards, but which one is YOUR favorite? Comment below with your votes!
Some More Experiments
After gaining some confidence with the Color with Paper Stamping technique, I went over my stamps and took a large swirl stamp. The stamp reminded me of a large abstract wave, so I chose papers in a water-teal-turquoise palette.
This time, I made three different cards:
Although they’re all pretty in my opinion, this card is definitely my favorite:
Is it your favorite too, or do you prefer another?
Final Thoughts
This technique reminded me of Sonia Delaunay‘s art. She is one of my favorite artists. In many of her paintings, she used different blocks of color to create abstract shapes (mostly circles). Here is one of her paintings, that is on display in Centre Pompidou in Paris:
Once I realized this connection, I understood immediately why I liked this technique so much… 🙂 I could never create anything that’s even close to her art, but if I can create something that reminds me of it – it’s awesome.
I really enjoyed this technique. It can be used in many ways, and I’m definitely planning on playing with it again soon!
I really hope you’ll give it a try too, lots of fun guaranteed!
