Hi everyone! I’m back today with a card that I made using Tim Holtz Distress Resist Spray on my background. This technique is very easy to do, and I’ll also share some alternatives if you don’t have the spray yet!
Tim Holtz is doing wonderful Facebook Lives every Saturday these days. They are full of techniques and inspiration, and I highly recommend watching them if you can!
Last Saturday’s demo reminded me how to use Distress Resist Spray with stencils and inks to create a background. Be sure to check it out!
I started by spraying Distress Resist Spray over a stencil, let it dry and then started applying Distress Inks with my ink blending tool:
Here is the background after adding all the colors. I love the cool effect of the Distress Resist Spray!
The colors that I used are: Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry and Mowed Lawn. I chose these colors because they match this week’s color scheme at the Color Throwdown:
Such happy colors!! 😍
After trimming my background to leave a 0.5 ” spacing for the sentiment, I stamped a “Happy Birthday” greeting in Hebrew from Kesem Art (“Practical Magic” in Hebrew). It’s a local Israeli brand with lots of pretty stamps. This particular stamp is an old favorite of mine:
And here is a photo of the finished card. I really like the look of this distress resist spray background technique:
If you want to make a similar background, but don’t have the resist spray, here are some alternatives:
1. Apply Versamark ink through the stencil, and then heat emboss with white or clear embossing powder
2. Use texture paste very lightly, and try to avoid completely filling the blanks of the stencil (to leave the pattern a little “raw”)
3. If you have white pigment spray, you can spray it over the stencil, and then do heat embossing
Hope this is helpful!
