Hi! Just a quick post today, sharing my cards for Day 1 of Online Card Classes (OCC) Spring Card Camp 2020.
OCC is one of my favorite platforms for acquiring new crafty skills. There are many different classes, for beginners and experienced crafters, and all of them are full of ideas, examples and great explanations.
My all-time favorite is definitely Tim Holtz’ Creative Chemistry series. I’ve learned so much from it!
This spring, Kristina Werner and Jennifer Mcguire are hosting a “spring card camp” class, that’s all about creating more than one card at a time. So much fun!!
OCC Spring Card Camp – Day 1 Technique
In day 1, Jennifer Mcguire shows how to make an embossing folder using a stamp. Mind blown! 🤯🤯
I used a stamp set called A Beautiful Life by Gina K. Designs. I really like this set, an used it 3 months ago in this post to make these cards:
For day 1 technique, again, I used that gorgeous, large flower frame.
Following Jennifer’s instructions, I heat embossed the frame 10 or 11 times (lost count in the middle of process LOL 😆), and then used the embossed paper as my embossing folder.
To make the embossing “pop”, I applied Distress Oxide inks with a blending tool.
Here are my cards. I use headlines for each one of them for easy linking later:
Mother’s Day Card
This one is probably my favorite. I can’t visit my mom because of coronavirus, and miss her so much! I think I’ll slip this card under her door, even though it’s not Mother’s Day 🙂
The card base is in a very pale peach color, and I used Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Ink over it. I really like the way the ink emphasizes the embossed impression.
The sentiment is also from the A Beautiful Life stamp set.
And also, for embellishments, I used sequins for the first time in my crafty life! I have so many sequins in my stash, but never really used them… I think a new addiction is born 🥰
Here’s another photo of this card from a different angle:
I’m submitting this card to challenge #555 at Little Red Wagon – “Maaama!”.
Orange Birthday Card
I made another card with the same color scheme, but with a different orientation:
You Make Life Beautiful Card
My next two cards were made on a light grey card base.
The first one is very (very) purple:
I used Dusty Concord Distress Oxide Ink, that matches the grey.
Looking backwards, I should have stamped the “you make life” of the sentiment in black, to add more contrast to the card. But I like it as it is too 🙂
Green Birthday Card
For my last embossed card, I used Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink.
I think this color scheme makes it suitable for a “masculine” card:
Bonus Card: Using the Embossing “Folder”!
After making four embossed cards, it was time to use my original embossed piece.
Because the embossing is so thick, it reminded me of stained glass borders.
I thought it would be fun to use this week’s color scheme at the Color Throwdown challenge:
I used a grey marker on the frames, and painted the tulips in red. Then, I stamped my sentiment in black and adhered the piece on a black card base:
To be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about this card. It’s very different from my “usual” cards. What do YOU think? tell me in the comments below!
And that’s all for today. Phew! Lots of homework in this class LOL!
I really liked this day 1 techniques, and I’m really looking forward for the next lessons at the Spring Card Camp!

What a great bunch of cards, Michael! I love the way the color makes your embossing pop. I would also like to officially congratulate you on your new sequin addiction. I can hardly make anything without them. Thanks so much for sharing with us at Little Red Wagon this week!
Thanks Brenda! 😊
