Hi! My cards for day 7 at Online Card Classes Spring Card Camp are ready! Lots of inking today, a stencil, and also a creative way to use both the positive and negative parts of a word die when you’re die cutting!
Laurie Willison was the teacher of day 7. She showed an easy way to make two cards, using inks, a stencil and a framed word die.
Here are my cards:
As you can see, I used both the positive and the negative sides of the die.
On the first card, the banner creates a “windows” in the card front, and the words are adhered on the inside:
I used distress oxide inks for inking, and a fun circle stencil from my stash. For die cutting, I used a “Mazel Tov” die designed by Tanya Sol. I also used the die on craft foam to add dimension.
To finish the card I added tiny Nuvo Jewel Drops in orange and pink.
On the right, you can see the catastrophe I had when my ink smudged… I used my Nuvo Sand Eraser a little too hard and the paper ripped 🙁 I’m still sharing this photo though, so others may learn from my mistakes:
For my second card, I used the negative side of the banner. In order to make it stand out over the patterned background, I added small pieces of black cardstock on the back:
I inked the banner, and then used my Nuvo Jewel Drops again to add tiny dots on the banner.
Lessons Learned
Some thoughts about this technique:
1 – You should be more light-handed when inking the stencil, to make the background less “noisy”. Then the negative part might stand out more.
2 – Adding a piece of cardstock to the back of the negative part makes a huge difference.
3 – Craft foam works great with die cuts! 🙂 I guess everyone know that, but it was new to me…
I’m submitting my cards to AUD Sentiments Challenge #249 – Birthday.
And that’s all for today! I had fun inking, die cutting and using a stencil I haven’t used in a while.
