Hello there! It’s time for this month’s color challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches, and I have a fun holiday card today with a big abstract snowflake! ❄️❄️❄️

Here’s the lovely color combination that Cecile chose for us:
And here’s my card!
When I first looked at the challenge colors, I was pretty much at loss and wasn’t sure what to do with them… 😅 But then I remembered a crafty advice from Jennifer McGuire. She talked about small die cuts as a way to escape a creative “block”, and that gave me an idea!
I took out the fun Abstract Elements dies from Tim Holtz and Sizzix, and started die cutting different shapes from cardstock pieces in the challenge colors. At first, I was drawn to the cute leaves, and then it hit me! I could use the leaves to create a snowflake! 🤯🤯🤯
From there it was pretty much smooth sailing… 🙂 The snowflake, naturally, required a holiday card.
I decided to use a light gray background instead of my usual white, because I thought the pretty gray (that has some “Kraft qualities”) emphasized the colors nicely. So the first step was to arrange the leaves on the gray panel and create the snowflake.
Then, I stamped a simple sentiment from the Abstract Holiday stamp set from Simon Says Stamp.
To finish the card I added some gemstones on the snowflake, for some extra sparkle. Also, I think it makes the snowflake shape more “obvious”.

Wow! What a brilliant use of the challenge’s colors, Michal. This “abstract” snowflake is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks so much Cecile! 🙂
Beautiful card! Super idea to use a crumb cake card base to let those colours shine!
Thanks Lesley! 🙂
I sometimes struggle with colour combos – so I am going to remember that tip Michal! Your pretty snowflake works a treat and I love the clear dot accents too. Beautiful!
Thanks so much Joanne! 🙂
That is such a fun idea! Super simple, but it looks beautiful 🙂 Way to think out of the box to use your supplies! 🙂
Thanks Cindy! 🙂
